There are no real stores in the village of La Ladrillera. So it is very difficult to buy clothes, shoes, toys, household goods and other items. FLF saw this as an opportunity to create a job for a deserving younger person in the village - to teach them to be how to run a retail store while using those funds to pay for their higher education.
We built a building in the center of the village and hired Lliny Zapon Chial to run the store and she is doing a great job. Families line up daily to purchase her goods. All items sell for 10 Quetzales (about $1 US). There is no dentist in the village, so we also provide toothbrushes and toothpaste at the store free of charge.
Donors here in the US can give gently used clothing, shoes, small toys and household goods, as well as new toothbrushes and toothpaste. Contact us today if you have items to donate!
